New York, NY
Contribution: Axe Art Portfolio No. 1
While his stark architectural photographs brought him early acclaim, Gaut's subject matter has expanded to include everything from axes in the forests of the pacific northwest to leisure submarines and the Lamborghini factory in Modena. Despite the wildly diverse assignments, there remains a dedication to the power of graphic simplicity established in those early photographs. His work regularly appears in the New York Times magazine, Wallpaper*, Wired, and V among others. When not behind the lens, his passion for all things well-crafted finds him obsessing over vintage bicycles, old tools and, of course, axes.
