The consummate all-season tent.
Designed by Colonel Townsend Whelen, legendary American outdoorsman, in the 1920's to satisfy his need for light-weight shelter in cold weather. Set up in front of a campfire with its back to the prevailing winds, the Whelen will protect you from the elements, but keep you out in the open air.
Made of cotton Sunforger 10.10 oz army duck canvas which is fire resistant and waterproof. For an improvement over the square tarp, it can also double as a great outdoor kitchen in foul weather. When rigged to its full height of 5 1/2 feet, the lean-to provides floor space of 6'x 7' which is large enough for 4 campers to cook and eat in. Tent requires user to hew poles and stakes.
