Story

With this collapsible Insect Net in tow, adventure awaits just beyond the door. Whether you’re in your backyard, a park, or the middle of the woods, its sturdy design makes bug catching a breeze. The large, lightweight mesh bag is constructed to minimize damage to delicate insect wings, while the long wooden handle allows for capturing specimens at a distance. This particular Insect Net was featured in our adventure to Petaluma, CA, where we met entomologist and conservation biologist Kevin Clarke. Kevin uses his net to catch-and-release insects in nearby fields and parks, keeping tabs on fluctuating local populations. When you’re trying to capture an insect, move slowly, position the net beneath it, and then swing upwards and over. Slowly bring your net to the ground, and gently examine your catch before releasing it or transferring it to a container. Preserve and store any finds in the Gerstner Collector’s Cabinet, a handsome cherry wood chest designed to display your most precious specimens — after all, sometimes nature’s craftsmanship requires a close look.
