Story

Our Sgian Dubh knife is a great source of Scottish pride, often seen accompanying a Highlander's finest dress tartan. The name, pronounced "skee-an du," means "black knife," an allusion to its original covert purpose as a blade hidden for self-defense, though historically it has been used for field-dressing game. Made by the legendary Perceval in the French knifemaking capital of Thiers, every step of the shaping, grinding, and finishing process is done by expert hands. While the traditional Sgian Dubh was made with a bog oak handle, ours is of Gabon ebony, an even more robust and deeply lustrous wood. The handle is fixed to the blade with a single mosaic pin, an understated yet distinct signifier of the knife's historic role as an emblem of character. The spear point blade is individually shaped and ground by hand from 12C27 Sandvik cutlery stainless steel, capable of quickly skinning an animal or whittling a sapling walking stick. Our Perceval Sgian Dubh is a knife that belongs just as much on the hunt as at the finest formal occasions.
