Story

This minimalist rack is the perfect clothing storage solution for anyone living in a smaller space. The spare design is both elegant and functional, but doesn’t take up as much room as a dresser might; it’s inspired by traditional kimono stands, known as iko. Built from Japanese cypress (largely sourced from Gifu Prefecture), this piece is designed by SOMA. We met SOMA’s founder, Masaru Kawai, on our recent adventure to Japan, where we visited his workshop. He takes care to consider the age, variety, color, and history of the wood he uses, ensuring it meets the particular needs and function of the pieces he makes. Through his work, Masaru hopes to restore a connection to authentic Japanese culture by using native coniferous woods. Best Made is proud to be the exclusive carriers of this and three additional SOMA pieces in the U.S.A.
