Story

Soft and light, this utterly functional piece is nevertheless a delight to see in a room. The Japanese cedar for this waste basket comes from trees planted roughly 70 years ago. Japan is now rich in trees of this age, which has inspired designer Masaru Kawai to look for ways to put it to use. Masaru is the founder of the furniture studio SOMA, we met him on our recent adventure to Japan. He takes care to consider the age, variety, color, and history of the wood he uses, ensuring it meets the particular needs and function of the pieces he makes. Through his work, Masaru hopes to restore a connection to authentic Japanese culture by using native coniferous woods. Best Made is proud to be the exclusive carriers of this and three additional SOMA pieces in the U.S.A.
