Story

Designer Kenya Hara pays homage to the color white in this stunning book. Hara gives one hundred examples of the color —snow, Iceland, rice, wax —, which plays an important role both in his own work and Japanese culture at large. The examples provide a practical foundation for Hara to discuss the importance of white in the world of design, as both a color and philosophy, and its representation of simplicity and subtlety.

Kenya Hara, born 1958, is a Japanese graphic designer and professor at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. Since 2002 he has been the art director for MUJI. He is interested in the circumstances and conditions of design rather than the "things" of design.
