The Viking Valgblyant Election Pencil

The Viking Valgblyant Election Pencil

BY Peter Buchanan-Smith

Are you mechanical or wood? I am wood. The more wood, the better.

Like an axe, I love the sharpening ritual, with each turn it's like fashioning a brand-new tool. Enter my favorite pencil: the Viking Valgblyant. It's big (a jumbo 9mm), and I can only describe its graphite (2B) as juicy. Viking developed the Valgblyant with the Danish government for their elections. It has a small lanyard hole in the end so it can be secured to voting stations with a string. Few writing instruments make a mark like the Valgblyant. Note: it requires an 11mm hole pencil sharpener (and a lot of sharpening).
