Thread cutters might be one of the more underappreciated tools in our toolbox. We don't reach for them often, but when we do—snipping a stubborn hair, dispatching an annoying thread, trimming a protruding hackle on a dry fly—we're reminded of their irreplaceable value. In that moment of need, the difference between a quality thread cutter and a makeshift solution becomes crystal clear.

Hand-forged in Japan from high-carbon laminated steel folded and forge-welded together, this precision thread cutter represents centuries of metalworking tradition distilled into one handy little tool. The robust spring mechanism delivers consistent tension, while the razor-sharp tip provides clean, precise cuts that won't fray delicate threads.

Overall Dimensions: 4.125" long x 0.875" wide
Blade Dimensions: 2" long
Daily Care: Keep your thread cutter clean and dry after each use. Wipe the blades with a soft cloth to remove any lint or debris. A light coating of camellia oil or machine oil on the pivot point will maintain smooth spring action—apply sparingly with a cotton swab. Store in a dry location. The high carbon steel construction will rust so maintain proper storage away from moisture.

Sharpening: The laminated high carbon steel will hold its edge for years with normal use, but eventual sharpening maintains peak performance. Hand Sharpening: Use a fine ceramic rod or small whetstone (1000+ grit). Work only the outer beveled edge of each blade, maintaining the original angle. Make light, consistent strokes moving away from the cutting edge. Count your strokes to ensure even treatment of both blades.
