The Barlow earned its place on the American blade map long before Mark Twain immortalized it in Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Though first made in Sheffield, England, around 1670, the pattern found its way to the United States and into George Washington's knife rotation. To this day, the Barlow's elongated bolster and teardrop handle make it one of the most elegant and quintessential pocket knives.

The sheepsfoot blade eliminates the pointed tip, creating a safer edge for detail work and precision cutting. The extended bolster reinforces the pivot point while the tear-shaped handle provides a secure grip without bulk. Bear & Son constructed this version with a stainless steel blade and a durable bone handle. There are many Barlows, but this is the one we love.

Bear & Son manufactures the Barlow in Jacksonville, Alabama, where they maintain full in-house production from blank stamping through final assembly. Founded in 1991, the company manufactures its own dies, performs heat treating, grinding, and hand-finishing, ensuring consistent quality across every knife it produces.
