The Little Doctor earned its stripes from decades of service in veterinary medicine and agricultural work across Germany. This was the knife rural practitioners carried for precision tasks and cutting that demanded control. Otter-Messer has preserved the pattern while reimagining its purpose, transforming a specialized tool into a compact everyday folder that retains the utility of its origins.

The blade is made of 4034 stainless steel and features a slip joint mechanism that locks via spring tension rather than mechanical components. Wood scales provide a natural grip, while the brass lining resists corrosion and reinforces the frame. The thumb groove ground into the blade spine enables exact control during cutting—a detail carried forward from the knife's veterinary heritage.

Otter-Messer has manufactured knives in Solingen since 1840, when the Berns brothers established production in a watermill. The company maintains handcrafted methods developed across five generations of continuous output, sharpening and finishing each blade through processes refined over 180 years of German knifemaking tradition.
