Story

Made in Ohio since the 1930s, the 41D chest has remained the steady favorite of machinists, carpenters, and collectors. Our version of the 41D will be available only in a limited quantity for a very short time. This special collaboration with the 108-year-old case maker starts with kiln-dried American cherry that is plain sawn and finished with solid brass hardware. The case is emblazoned with several of the most distinguished Best Made emblems, including an engraved “Measure Twice / Cut Once” ruler on the lid, a hand-painted sash on the center drawer, and custom embroidery in the white-felt-lined compartments. Suitable for storing knives, watches, pens, natural specimens, or just about any small keepsake, the 41D is the most dignified chest you will ever own.

History

H. Gerstner & Sons was founded in Dayton, Ohio by Harry Gerstner in 1906. Gerstner is now a 4th generation family owned business known throughout the country for heirloom quality, handcrafted tool chests. It’s acknowledged that those who keep their tools in a Gerstner Tool Chest are a cut above the rest. Harry Gerstner’s basic principle still applies to every tool chest built – “A place for everything and everything in its place.” The 41D Chest dates back to the 1930’s, and was originally designed to protect delicate, precision instruments of the tool & die industry.
