Chris Reeve's Sebenza established the framelock as the benchmark for precision knife making when it debuted in 1987. Where traditional folders relied on spring tension or liner locks, Reeve's titanium framelock created unprecedented rigidity and blade stability. The Sebenza proved that production knives could achieve aeronautical-grade tolerances, fundamentally changing what buyers expected from a pocket knife. The Techno 2 descends directly from the Sebenza lineage—a compact interpretation of framelock principles refined over three decades of continuous production and feedback.

Marcin Slysz's design is a lesson in mechanical efficiency—a titanium frame that serves as both handle scale and locking mechanism, eliminating redundant components. The blade is made of CTS-XHP stainless "super" steel, an American powder-metallurgy alloy that delivers exceptional edge retention while maintaining corrosion resistance. The stonewashed finish on both the blade and frame conceals wear while providing texture for a secure grip. The frame is precision-machined from a solid titanium billet, with tolerances measured in thousandths.

Spyderco makes the Techno 2 in Taiwan, where its manufacturing infrastructure supports the tight tolerances essential for such a premium knife—consistent lockup, centered blade deployment, and finish quality.

Wipe CTS-XHP blade clean after use, particularly after contact with acidic or salty materials. While highly corrosion-resistant, a light coat of food-safe oil provides additional protection in humid environments. Clean open-backed construction with compressed air. Titanium handles require minimal maintenance—occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. Strop blade regularly to extend time between sharpenings.
