Our Limited Edition American Bison Sweater is so special, and this exceptional quality of bison fiber so rare, we produced just 50 of them. The American Bison—sometimes mistakenly referred to as a buffalo, an animal found only in Asia and Africa—is an indigenous feature of our Western landscape that has been brought back from the edge of extinction. Last year, it joined the bald eagle as a national symbol after being designated the official mammal of the United States. The Best Made Limited Edition American Bison Sweater includes 20% hand-pulled American bison fiber blended with wool and alpaca. This wonderfully soft natural fiber is sourced in Wyoming from Durham Ranch’s impressive herd of 5,000 American bison and hand-pulled by the specially trained staff at Mountain Meadow Wool Mill. The labor-intensive technique of hand-pulling allows for the gentle harvest of the downiest fibers without the need for additional mechanical processing, resulting in a unique and rustic yarn that retains bits of plant matter. The sweater is made in California using computerized flat-knitting machines that knit each richly textured panel to shape, with no cutting and beautifully formed flat seams. Available online only.
