Our Okayama Selvege Chambray originates in Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture, a region that has anchored Japan's textile industry since its post-war reconstruction. The fabric is woven at a mill founded in 1951, using traditional Sakamoto Automatic Shuttle Looms. Though far less efficient than modern air jet looms, these vintage machines create the firm texture and true selvedge edges that distinguish this exceptional fabric.

For the tan colorway, our mill employs "cheese dyeing" —a specialized process where yarn is wound onto perforated bobbins known as "cheeses" and dyed under pressure, allowing colors to penetrate completely through each fiber. This technique produces exceptionally deep, even saturation that differs from traditional surface-pattern methods like shibori or chusen. The result is distinctive, richly saturated color that maintains its intensity through extensive wear.
